Work areas in the kitchen
Monday, May 10, 2010
Many of us are familiar with the concept of a work triangle in the kitchen. This has been a tried and true formula in the past for where appliances, work areas and the like have been located. We have experienced, over the past several years, a shift from the “work triangle” concept to specific work areas in the kitchen like “food preparation area”, “food assembly area”, “food cooking area” and “food clean up area”. As people entertain more and more in their kitchens, this area has morphed into an area that serves many purposes. There is more participation in the process of cooking and thus these different “work space areas” allow for more room for many people to participate. Now it is not unusual for kitchen to have several sinks, dishwashers, ovens and refrigerators. Preparing meals has now become a family and friends event that creates a social time.
